H11 · Dakuten
Goal: read 8 words with dakuten (゛): が ざ だ ば.
Before you start
This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:
New kana
- がga
- ぎgi
- ぐgu
- げge
- ごgo
- ざza
- じji
- ずzu
- ぜze
- ぞzo
- だda
- ぢji
- づzu
- でde
- どdo
- ばba
- びbi
- ぶbu
- べbe
- ぼbo
The two small strokes (゛) voice the sound: k → g, s → z, t → d, h → b. ぢ and づ are read ji and zu, like じ and ず, and are rare.
Look at their shape and reading. If in doubt, check the dakuten section of the hiragana chart.
Trace practice
Go over the shape with your finger, mouse or a stylus. It is free practice: it does not count towards passing the lesson.

You practise them in kana; underneath you can see how they are usually written.

Reading in context
A short text written only with the kana and grammar you already know. Read it and answer.
A note on the fridge:

mizu, ringo
What do you need to buy?
Translation
Water, apples.
