GE04 · Looks like: 〜そうです
Goal: say what something looks like (6 example sentences).
Before you start
The sentences use words you already know, up to the elementary level, and assume basic grammar.
This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:
What you learn
〜そうです

- そうlooks like it will…
そう attaches to the stem of an い-adjective (おいし + そう) or a verb (ふり + そう) and says what something looks like: おいしそうです (looks tasty), あめが ふりそうです (looks like rain). Exception: いい → よさそうです.
Examples
- パンが おいしそうです。pan ga oishisou desu. The bread looks tasty.
- あめが ふりそうです。ame ga furisou desu.It looks like it's going to rain.
