GE05 · Done, oops: 〜
Goal: say something is done or happened by mistake (6 example sentences).
Before you start
The sentences use words you already know, up to the elementary level, and assume basic grammar.
This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:
What you learn
The て-form + しまいました has two uses: something is completely done (ほんを よんで しまいました, I've read the whole book) or something regrettable happened (かぎを わすれて しまいました, I've left my keys behind).
Examples
kagi o wasurete shimaimashita.I've left my keys behind.
pan o tabete shimaimashita.I've eaten all the bread.
densha ni okurete shimaimashita.I missed the train.
shorui o sutete shimaimashita.I threw away the documents by mistake.
denki o keshite shimaimashita.I turned off the light by mistake.
hon o yonde shimaimashita.I've read the whole book.
Practice
Two rounds: first you pick what each sentence means; then you complete it with the missing form.
