GI14 · Deciding: 〜ことに する

Goal: report a decision (6 example sentences).

Before you start

The sentences use words you already know, up to the intermediate level, in kanji with furigana, and assume elementary grammar.

This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:

What you learn

〜ことに しました/〜ことに なりました

The dictionary form + ことに しました reports your own decision: ひっこす ことに しました (I've decided to move). With なりました, the decision comes from outside (the company, circumstances): にほんに いく ことに なりました (it's been decided I'm going to Japan).

Examples

Practice

Two rounds: first you pick what each sentence means; then you complete it with the missing form.

Reading in context

A short text with words and grammar you already know; kanji carry their reading above. Read it and answer.

来月らいげつ、日本にほんで はたらく ことに なりました。
