Katakana · lesson 7 of 12

K07 · W row and ン

Goal: read 6 words with ワ ヲ ン.

Before you start

This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:

New kana

ン and ソ look alike: ン has its long stroke going upwards and a flatter dot; ソ goes downwards and its dot is more upright. ヲ is almost never used in katakana.

Look at their shape and reading. If in doubt, check the katakana chart (gojūon).

Trace practice

Go over the shape with your finger, mouse or a stylus. It is free practice: it does not count towards passing the lesson.

Words

You practise them in kana; underneath you can see how they are usually written.

Practice

Two rounds: first you read each word and type its romaji, then you pick what it means. No romaji on screen.

Reading in context

A short text written only with the kana and grammar you already know. Read it and answer.

A note on the fridge:

ワイン、レモン、メロン

  1. Which fruit is on the list?
