H13 · Yōon
Goal: read 5 words with small ゃ ゅ ょ (yōon).
Before you start
This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:

A small ゃ, ゅ or ょ joins the kana before it into one syllable: き + ゃ = kya. Size matters: きや (ki-ya) is not きゃ (kya).
Look at their shape and reading. If in doubt, check the yōon section of the hiragana chart.
Trace practice
Go over the shape with your finger, mouse or a stylus. It is free practice: it does not count towards passing the lesson.
Words
You practise them in kana; underneath you can see how they are usually written.
- おちゃochateaUsually written お茶
- でんしゃdenshatrainUsually written 電車
- しゃしんshashinphotographUsually written 写真
- ひゃくhyakuhundredUsually written 百
- りょかんryokanJapanese inn (ryokan)Usually written 旅館
Practice
Two rounds: first you read each word and type its romaji, then you pick what it means. No romaji on screen.
Reading in context
A short text written only with the kana and grammar you already know. Read it and answer.
