IN16 · Money and finance

Goal: learn 11 words and phrases for earning, spending and lending money.

Before you start

This level assumes the elementary level and elementary grammar. From here on, words are in kanji with their reading above; in the reading round you'll see the kanji alone.

This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:

What you learn

かす (lend) and かりる (borrow) are the two sides of a loan: ともだちに おかねを かします (I lend my friend money), ともだちに おかねを かります (I borrow money from my friend). かえす is paying it back.

Words

You practise them in kana; underneath you can see how they are usually written.

Practice

Two rounds: first you read each word and type its romaji, then you pick what it means. No romaji on screen.

Reading in context

A short text with words and grammar you already know; kanji carry their reading above. Read it and answer.

A note on a flatmate's desk:

きのう 千円せんえん かりました。あした かえします。

  1. What will he do tomorrow?
