Katakana · lesson 10 of 12

K10 · ッ and combinations

Goal: read 7 words with small ッ and ャ ュ ョ.

Before you start

This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:

New kana

Just like in hiragana: a small ッ doubles the next consonant (チケット, chiketto) and small ャ, ュ, ョ form one syllable with the kana before (シャ = sha).

Look at their shape and reading. If in doubt, check the yōon section of the katakana chart.

Trace practice

Go over the shape with your finger, mouse or a stylus. It is free practice: it does not count towards passing the lesson.

Words

You practise them in kana; underneath you can see how they are usually written.

Practice

Two rounds: first you read each word and type its romaji, then you pick what it means. No romaji on screen.

Reading in context

A short text written only with the kana and grammar you already know. Read it and answer.
