Katakana · lesson 11 of 12

K11 · Extended combinations

Goal: read 6 words with ファ, フィ, フェ, フォ and ティ.

Before you start

This lesson assumes what you saw in the earlier ones. If something feels shaky, go back to it:

New kana

For sounds Japanese does not have, katakana uses a small vowel: フ + ァ = fa, テ + ィ = ti. They are read as one syllable.

Trace practice

Go over the shape with your finger, mouse or a stylus. It is free practice: it does not count towards passing the lesson.

Words

You practise them in kana; underneath you can see how they are usually written.

Practice

Two rounds: first you read each word and type its romaji, then you pick what it means. No romaji on screen.

Reading in context

A short text written only with the kana and grammar you already know. Read it and answer.
